Presents Moruya Rodeo
The Story of
The Rodeo Association of Moruya
Recollections of John 'Stag' Davidge:
Talk of a Rodeo being held in Moruya started one Sunday in 1967 on the front veranda of our farm at Jerremadra after a Church Service at Mogo. A meeting was held in 1968 at Illawong Thoroughbred Stud with the first Rodeo being held in 1968 as an ARRA (now APRA) affiliated event. The first President was Warren Clarke (Buckenbore). Others I can recollect were Brian Clarke, Jim Turnbull, Jack Jeffery, Bob Cantley - Reg and Neville Green - Jack, Jim, John (myself) and Pat Davidge.
As an ARRA Rodeo the original dates were between Jindabyne Boxing Day Rodeo and Tumbarumba New Years Day Rodeo. There was no Bull Ride and local steers were used. After three years Moruya became an ABCA (now ABCRA) affiliated event with Jim Turnbull becoming the President. Moruya contributed to stock which were owned by the Southern Zone and shared with other Rodeos in the Region.
Do you have a recollection of Moruya Rodeo in the early years? Contributions gratefully accepted via Contact Us page.
